Can I bring in my own containers?

Absolutely! We encourage our customers to bring in ANY of their old jars, bottles or containers from home. We also provide a wide range of glass jars and bottles in store which are available to purchase as well as complementary recycled paper bags, however, bringing your containers will eliminate unnecessary packaging altogether allowing you to shop entirely waste free!

How it works:

  • Please ensure your containers are clean before bringing them back to the store. 
  • Either ask one of our friendly staff to pre-weigh your containers or simply make your way to one of our weigh stations which allows you to weigh your containers and print a sticker stating the weight with an option to write the product code that goes onto each container. 
  • Once your containers have been weighed you can start scooping your favourite bulk products! We can also refill your clean nut butter jars at our nut butter station.  When you are ready simply head to the check out. The weight of each container will be deducted so you will only pay for the product inside. 
  • Liquids are measured in volume so there is no need to pre-weigh your bottles. All you need to do is ensure that your bottles state the mls on them. If not please ask the staff to measure your bottle for you. Also, remember to always ask staff for assistance with refilling your bulk liquids.

Can I have a plastic carry bag at the checkout?

Scoop Wholefoods Australia is a single-use plastic free store so we don’t provide plastic carry bags at the check out and nothing in the store comes in single-use plastic packaging. We only use recycled paper carry bags at our check outs and our reusable hessian carry bags are also available to purchase. We highly encourage customers to bring their own shopping bags too! 

I want to cook with your products but don’t know where to start. I’ve never seen or used some of these products before. Do you have any recipes available?

We are always excited to hear this question as it gives us the opportunity to introduce new customers to the Scoop Wholefoods world and it’s endless and exciting possibilities. We love inspiring our customers to not only waste less and shop plastic free but to create new recipes using our carefully curated wide range of bulk wholefoods. Everything is available on the Scoop Wholefoods App/Website.

On the App/Website you will not only find lots of recipes using our products but also a list of all the bulk products we sell in store with information about each one, including the country of origin, ingredients, nutritional panel and ideas on how to use it. 

Also included is each three digit product code in case you ever need to check which item you purchased, for example 113 = Dry Roasted Almonds. You can also keep up to date with new products and recipes via our social media pages.

How are your products sourced and in what kind of packaging?

All of our products arrive in Singapore by sea freight. Many of our products arrive in large 15kg-25kg paper bags, however, some must come packaged in bulk sized plastic bags in order to retain freshness and quality in transit. We are lucky to work very closely with our suppliers and constantly work with them on better packaging solutions to suit our business and the sustainability of the planet. We encourage them to package in bulk as much as possible.

Buying in bulk from suppliers allows for one big bag instead of many smaller ones. We are lucky to provide an entirely single use plastic free logistic line from a business to customer perspective. Something not many businesses can say. The business to business line is a work in progress and many factors must be taken into consideration such as health and safety and current government regulations around food packaging.

Companies like ours are working towards making a difference and putting the pressure on other businesses and government bodies to work towards more sustainable solutions. As our business grows, our voices are being heard. Working on sustainability from a B2B perspective is a constant work in progress but it feels great knowing that it’s businesses like ours who are leading the way to making a difference.

Why don’t you sell ground spices and superfood powders in bulk?

From our research we find that selling ground powders in bulk bins will destroy the flavour and nutritional benefit of these products as they slowly oxidise over time. In order to maintain their quality we always sell them in air-tight glass jars. Preserving the quality also means you will only need to use small quantities at a time due to the potency, hence lasting you much longer and therefore more economical. For a waste free option we encourage customers to clean their empty jars and bring them back in store to refill with any of our hundreds of bulk products. 

Can I make a request?

Always! We love customers’ feedback about our products. We’d also like to hear from you about products you would love to see in store. Reach out to us via email, on our social media pages or talk to a team member in store. But remember! When it comes to prepackaged products if it doesn’t come in plastic free packaging we won’t stock it. Hence why there are some wholefood fridge and shelf items you won’t find in store. When the right product, for the right price and in the right packaging becomes available we are always keen to sample it. 

Is your Peanut Butter Organic?

Currently, most Certified Organic Peanuts come from the USA. Queensland Australia grows the highest quality peanuts in the world, known as Grade A peanuts. Australian peanuts are also certified chemical and pesticide free. As an Australian business we try to support Aussie farmers as much as possible and knowing our farmers currently grow the world’s best quality and most delicious peanuts is a win win all round!

Why don’t you sell freshly made Nut Mylk in store?

When nut mylks are made freshly with no thickeners or preservatives the self life is generally very short, hence, the product won’t stay fresh for very long in your fridge which can create more waste. We try to encourage our customers to make their own nut mylk at home as this will be a lot less wasteful and a lot more economical as you can make it as you need it. In our stores, you will find a few different options for making homemade nut mylk. The cheapest and most sustainable option is to purchase one of our nut mylk bags, soak your nuts overnight and blend fresh in the morning.

Another alternative is to use one of our many different nut butters and blend with water for a couple of minutes. Lastly, we also sell an Almond mylk creame base in a jar which you can blend with water to make almond mylk. If you are time poor or prefer to buy ready made you will find a range of our carefully selected ready made nut mylks in our fridge section. These include a cashew and coconut blend, soy mylk, almond mylk and an Australian macadamia mylk. These will have a longer shelf life.

Do you have a Membership / Loyalty Programme?

We began Scoop Wholefoods with the objective to make natural and organic wholefoods more affordable. Our aim is to offer honest pricing based on the high quality products that we source. For this reason we believe that these types of programmes/memberships are not necessary when your prices are very competitive.  The pricing of our products will vary throughout the year subject to changes such as availability depending on seasons, especially since we are dealing with natural products.

We monitor this closely to ensure our customers are always paying the right price according to these changes. We don’t feel the need to have a ‘points scheme’ as it is simply just that ‘a scheme’ as there will always be an inflated cost somewhere when it comes to these kinds of promotions. Instead, everyone is a member everyday when they shop at Scoop Wholefoods and the best part is that you don’t have to give us your private information in return for a plastic card (that will most certainly one day end up in landfill). It’s another win for your pockets and for the planet!

Are your bulk products free from cross contamination?

Due to the concept of our store ALL bulk products can have traces of ALL allergens at ALL times. At Scoop Wholefoods we have strict hygiene and quality control standards, however, there is always a chance of cross contamination. You will see clear signage throughout the store to be mindful of allergens including gluten, dairy, soy, nuts, pollen and sesame.

We kindly warn all customers who are highly sensitive to any of these allergens or who may be concerned about potential traces of cross contamination not to purchase form our bulk bins.

Can I buy your products online?

Currently, we don’t offer online purchasing for our products as we feel that it contradicts with our zero waste mission ethos of encouraging customers to bring in their own containers to purchase the exact quantities they need. When we find an avenue to offer online shopping that aligns with our zero waste values we will look into it further, but so far none of the available options fit the brief of our expectations. Sometimes sustainability and the desire to look after our planet must override convenience.

We believe our stores provide a food shopping experience like no other and our plans for the near future to make our products more accessible to our Singapore customers is to continue opening more stores.
